IMG 0760Coconut oil can be whipped into a wonderful body butter suitable for most skin types. A few years ago, I started to notice that my skin was very dry and itchy (another Perimenopause symptom). I tried using many of the well known brand name moisturizers for sensitive skin but none of them seemed to work. Eventually I settled on coconut oil which I now buy in bulk at the warehouse store.  It’s a bargain because I use it for everything; cooking, cleaning, hair and skin care. The great thing about coconut oil is that it absorbs quickly so it does not leave a smeary mess like many other oils. It also has a higher melting point than many other oils (but it will become liquid in warm weather).

Last winter, my dry itchy skin returned with a vengeance. I noticed that my skin seemed scaly. Yuk! Even my coconut oil was not relieving my discomfort.  I was looking for some heavy duty solutions and I revisited my essential oil collection.

Aging skin requires extra TLC and for me Lavender and Chamomile essential oils were just the thing to soothe my itch.

Other essential oils I recommend for aging skin are:

  • Frankincense
  • Geranium
  • Myrrh
  • Neroli
  • Patchouli
  • Rose
  • Rose Hip Seed
  • Ylang Ylang
