We spend an extraordinary amount of money on bottled water in this country. Manufacturers have created a very profitable industry by “enhancing” water with flavor and minerals. While it is convenient, the waste produced is problematic.
Many people do not like the “taste” of water. So flavored water is everywhere, with a hint of this or a touch of that. A simple way to have your flavored water and help reduce waste is homemade vitamin water and a couple of reusable water bottles.
It is a simple as as adding fruit and/or herbs to some filtered water and letting it sit in the refrigerator for a few hours. The result is comparable to the commercially bottled stuff and you have control over the ingredients added. I keep frozen fruit for my water, so I don’t have to worry about spoiling produce. If you have a herb garden, this is a great way to use your harvest and add more nutrients to the water. These fruit infusions are a must have in every kitchen.
